Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia 14 October 2024 – Innoquest Pathology, Malaysia’s only multi-disciplinary clinical laboratory, accredited by both the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and MS ISO 15189, proudly celebrates the launch of Sabah’s first state-of-the-art digital histopathology laboratory at Jesselton Medical Centre. This facility signals a significant advancement in diagnostic healthcare for the region, offering rapid result turnaround from one week to a mere 1-2 working days, with the ability to process over 400 cases monthly.

Pioneering Digital Pathology Integration

Innoquest Pathology leverages cutting-edge digital pathology to enhance diagnostic precision and efficiency. The transformation of tissue samples into high-resolution digital slides allows for comprehensive electronic analyses and easy sharing of data. Utilising whole-slide imaging (WSI), pathologists can scrutinise tissue morphologies remotely and at any time with accuracy akin to traditional microscopy. This integration is bolstered by Innoquest’s 20 seasoned in-house pathologists, ensuring expert evaluation and reliable diagnostics.

Advancing Patient Care

The rapid diagnostic capability of the new laboratory is vital for the timely identification and treatment of serious illnesses like cancer. By delivering swift and precise results, clinicians can make well-informed decisions more quickly, improving patient outcomes and reducing the stress associated with waiting for test results.

Harnessing AI and Telepathology

Leveraging artificial intelligence, Innoquest employs advanced imaging algorithms to enhance diagnostic accuracy by identifying patterns, quantifying critical biomarkers, and detecting abnormalities such as tumors with heightened efficiency. The digital platform also supports telepathology, facilitating remote expert consultations that further decrease diagnostic times. The storage and management of digital images simplifies the tracking of patient history, aiding comparative studies and future research.

Vision for the Future

Dr. Thanikachalam Pasupati Meenakshi, Chief Pathologist at Innoquest, reflected on the post-pandemic impetus: “Digital pathology became essential during COVID-19, highlighting both its potential and necessity. We seized the opportunity to extend these solutions to East Malaysia, overcoming challenges that have long hindered access to quality healthcare”

Echoing this vision, Ms. Kuna Sabapathy, Deputy CEO of East Malaysia, emphasized, “As Malaysia’s leading independent clinical diagnostics laboratory, Innoquest remains committed to investing in cutting-edge technology and strengthening ties with healthcare institutions to further develop healthcare systems.”

This landmark initiative not only elevates the capabilities of Jesselton Medical Centre but also underscores Innoquest’s mission to deliver exceptional medical services to Sabah, enhancing the reliability and accessibility of advanced healthcare for the community.
